As a satisfied Electrolux vacuum owner, since 1979 I have been a client here for approx. 20 years. I found them after being very disappointed with service from other vac service shops that claimed they could service Electrolux. But I found these other shops used third-party, poor quality parts, not Electrolux parts, and also sold me third party vac bags which did not perform properly.
As I see it, the vac industry is characterized by highly promoted products with many weak plastic parts, which fail after a few years use. Likewise, a lot of the vac repair /service industry is focused on max revenue, not true client service and quality parts. How is the average busy consumer supposed to know?
Indeed the store is small, but I have always received honest and excellent advice.
Electrolux was like the old Swedish Volvo - a practical and robust design which was intended to, and did, last for years and years. All my Electrolux vacuums lasted for years of heavy use, and when repaired with Electrolux parts, lasted for more years after repair. Indeed some owners had their vacs for 30 years or more. My first 1979 Electrolux vac lasted for 30 years+ with a couple of not too costly repairs.
A few years ago, Electrolux was (sadly, IMHO) acquired by a company that now promotes new, poor-quality "plastic" vacs under the Electrolux name. It was just the name they wanted. What they now sell are not the original Electrolux designs.
The owner of this shop told me all that, and said some of the original Electrolux employees had bought the rights to the original Electrolux designs, which they now produce under a new sales name. I bought one of the new models approx. 5-6 years ago, and it has performed faithfully and well with heavy usage, with nary a problem except for one I caused myself: I or my spouse had bought (somewhere) some non-Electrolux bags and the weak cardboard face of the bag had failed, thereby causing the spring-loaded turnoff switch to deploy thru the cardboard, raising the "no bag inserted" condition.
I would like to see the owner of this shop start a blog with reliable and trustable info re the ins and outs of consumer vacs.
